Torah L'am

Torah for Everyone - 2008

A course for all Limmud volunteers: Conference Team 2007, join in some learning!

Volunteering isn't just give, give, give...

Limmud wants to ensure that your experience of volunteering is both enjoyable and rewarding.

We are aware that some volunteers do not manage to attend as many sessions at Conference as they would want to, and that volunteering to help create Conference required a significant demand on our time during the year.

We want to give something back to everyone and to thank you for volunteering. We have organised the course at a hugely reduced rate - courses elsewhere in the community normally cost between £50 and £100.

It'll also give a chance for you to meet people who were working on parts of Conference Team that were entirely separate from your own.

So what is the Torah L'Am course?

Torah L'Am is a six part crash course created by long-time Limmud activist Dr Raphael Zarum. It has two aims:

(a) To discover the multileveled thematic structure of the entire Torah

(b) To learn how to study and talk Torah with our families, our friends, our colleagues and in our communities

Come and find out how to learn the entire Torah in under twenty minutes, ten times in a row; ask eight key questions of any Torah text to make sense of it; and prepare a Torah talk in four straightforward steps.

Where and when will I be learning the course?

Venue: will be in NW London, exact details to be confirmed in January

Time and date: The course lasts 6 sessions and will be held on Tuesday evenings, between 8pm and 10pm. You should attend all or at a minimum, 5 of the sessions in order to get the most from the course. Sessions will be held on:

-          Tuesdays 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th January.

-          Tuesdays 5th and 19th February

-          There will be no class on the 12th February

Cost: £15. This is a highly reduced rate being offered only to Limmud volunteers. This price will include refreshments at each session and, most importantly, the Torah L'Am handbook, which you will keep and use after the course has finished.

Teaching: Andrew Levy, an experienced Torah L'Am tutor and seasoned Limmudnik, will teach the course.

Pre-requisites: None. You do not need to be familiar with the Torah or read Hebrew to take an awesome amount from the course.

What do I do next?

To book a place on the course, please email conf07-volunteers@limmud.org, giving Torah L'Am as your subject. If you would like more information about the course, please call Charles Darwish, Conference 2007 Volunteers Team Co-Chair on 07956 86 15 70.

Please note that the class has a maximum of 16 participants, so we will work on a first-come, first served basis.
