About Limmud

Limmud is one of the most exciting and innovative educational organisations in the British-Jewish community. Over 5,000 people, from every walk of life, background, religious affiliation and age have attended at least one Limmud event this year - and over 20,000 have attended a Limmud event in our 25-year history.

Organised almost entirely by over 500 volunteers, the Limmud model of cross-communal Jewish education has been replicated throughout the world. Limmud continues to work with the 15 Limmud International Groups from all around the world (from the Former Soviet Union to New York) who have imported the Limmud model into their own communities.

We aim to enable each participant to go one step further on their own Jewish journey by offering access to some of the world's most dynamic Jewish educators, performers and teachers. They use all educational styles including lectures, workshops, text-study sessions,  film, meditation, discussions, exhibits and performances to ensure that there is always ‘something for everyone'. Indeed, the content of a typical Limmud event is as diverse as its participants!

Our flagship event is a five-day residential Conference held on a university campus attended by over 2,000 people - which the Jewish Chronicle called the "jewel in the crown of Anglo-Jewry". This event attracts some 350 presenters annually, between them presenting over 900 sessions on every conceivable topic of Jewish interest.

Launched in 2004, inspired by the Glastonbury music festival, Limmud's residential summer festival is called Limmudfest. Over the August bank holiday weekend, Fest combines a unique blend of learning, music and culture resulting in an accessible and inspiring participative experience.

Across the length and breadth of Britain, Limmud is also proud to run Day Limmuds in 11 communities around the country - including Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Essex, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, South London, South East London, Scotland and Thames Valley.

Additionally, in London, we run Limmud Live, a showcase for Jewish performance talent, and co-run the Florence Melton Adult Mini School.

In recent years, Limmud has diversified solely from educational conferences to producing educational materials, such as Taste of Limmud, the internationally renowned chavrutah programme and the Limmud Shabbat Book.

Limmud is a dynamic, changing organisation with exciting plans for the future - watch this space!

Thank you

Limmud gratefully acknowledges the financial support it receives from individuals, organisations and charitable trusts, without which Conference, Limmudfest, Day Limmuds and all our other events would not be possible. More
