Boldly go – Tikkun Trek

Join us on Tikkun Trek – hike through the beautiful countryside and camp overnight – all whilst learning. Renew yourself in a unique event that will both challenge and entertain you. Trek aims to encompass a Jewish spiritual experience of the outdoors led by Josh Lake, who leads nature programming for Jewish communities. We're planning lots of exciting activities – outdoor cooking (maybe making challot over a campfire), animal tracking, outdoor survival skills – like shelter building and rope-making – a night hike and outdoor shacharit (morning prayer)

Choose from two adventures.

Traditional Trek is a hike to and from an overnight camp, leaving on Thursday. It consists of two routes – one shorter, one longer – for people with different fitness levels. Both routes are muddy and wild – so be prepared! If you want, you can take part in the mystical cave experience on Friday.

If you're more adventurous and you have some hiking experience, you might be interested in this year's innovation – Extreme Trek. Based on an American model and led by Mike Comins, Extreme Trek will lead us into the wilder parts of the Peak District. With a combination of hiking and Jewish spiritual exploration of the wilderness – you'll have time alone and time for meditation. We'll be leaving on Wednesday afternoon for two days' and two nights' exploration of Kinder Scout and the Dark Peak area. You'll be expected to backpack – carrying all your gear with you.

Click here if you are interested in Extreme Trek and let us know whether you can do two nights (start on the Wednesday) or one. As of 29 July there are only three places left.

What you need to know

Tikkun Trek leaves the Fest site at lunchtime on the Thursday (or the Wednesday, if there's the demand) to explore the woodlands of the Peak District National Park.

Trekkers spend the day cycling or hiking in small supervised groups, accompanied by an educator. All groups will meet up and camp together overnight, packing up and returning to the Fest site on Friday, in time for the beginning of Fest proper.

The Peak District is a hilly area – so do please make sure that you are capable of the  physical exertion necessary, whether you go for Traditional Trek or Extreme Trek.

If you're not yet 16, you're very welcome to take part, but you'll have to find a willing parent or guardian to accompany you.

You can either bring your own bicycle and tent (there will be space on the coach) or hire them from us.
