Enjoy Fest for less - £95 or even free - SCHEME FULL

27 July update. YADs places are now closed for Limmudfest08, but please come as a full participant.

This page is here for information only. We're looking forward to seeing everyone at the event.

15 July update. To keep up with increasing Fest applications, we've a few remaining YADs places, even though the deadline has passed. Please apply really quickly as they're likely to be taken soon!

Three quick steps to being a YAD (you may need to enable popups):

1. Apply for Fest (and tick the YAD box on the volunteer section. If you are over 30 you will need to say your occupation is a 'student' even if it's not really; don't worry about this but if it asks for your place of study just put 'YAD')

3. We'll get back to you quickly!

And if you want to know more ...

Every year, 250 young people join Limmud's Young Adult Development scheme or are selected as madrichim - leaders - for the Young Limmud programme at our UK residential events.

You'll enjoy a significant discount, feel part of the team and make an important contribution to the smooth running of Fest. It's a fantastic introduction to Limmud and if you like it, who knows where it may take you - both Amanda and Deborah, who are the chairs of Limmudfest this year, first volunteered for the Young Adult Development scheme.

Outside your hours, you'll be able to take part in the full programme of several hundred sessions - music, history, text study, drama, environment and social issues and film. And with food included in the price, the only extra money you'll need will be for the bar.

Limmudfest is a community, and everyone is expected to help out and lend a hand.  These two schemes are a good way to show your commitment - and to get a lot out of it as well. Take a look at what it will mean for you.

We've opened up the schemes to applicants from all over the world - YAD and madrich places are available to you wherever you live. However, if we end up heavily oversubscribed we'll support applications from the UK community first.

 YADs (£95 camping)Madrichim (free)
What it's calledYoung Adult Development scheme or YAD for short - yad is the Hebrew word for hand. YADs are the helping hands at Limmud events.

Madrichim (leaders) for the programme for Young Limmudfest.

There are also a couple of positions as crèche managers if you have a qualification to work in this role. Please e-mail fest08-families[at]limmud.org for more information on this.

Who can applyAnyone under 30 or in full time education (if you're a little older, and are really keen then we'd also look kindly on it - or consider the Childcare Assistance Scheme which is for all ages).Anyone who enjoys working with young people and wants to lead a programme.
What we expect you to do

You'll be timetabled to help out for 3 hours each day. We expect YADs to respect the schedule and tasks that you will be asked to do and to work the rest of your programme around them.

YADs are an important part of the Limmudfest community, and you could find yourself lending a hand across the whole event.

Your role can range from helping put up tents, serving food (we have caterers to do the cooking), babysitting, nursery, keeping the site tidy, making sure presenters get the resources they need, running the bar, or letting families enjoy Fest by entertaining their children.

Presenting does not count as a YAD activity.

Outside your YAD hours you're free to enjoy the full Fest programme - and feel appreciated by everyone.

We run a Young Limmudfest programme for school ages up to Year 11 (15/16 years old). It's fun, it's flexible and the leaders get as much out of it as those taking part.

Each madrich (m) or madricha (f) can expect to spend 6 hours a day alongside one or two other leaders for a particular age group.

Most of the material will be prepared in advance, but of course we hope you'll bring your own ideas and energy as well. It is essential that you come to the site 2 days before to help set up.

The Fest programme goes on till late so you'll be able to enjoy a wide range of sessions, music and the bar after the Young Limmudfest day is over.
The sort of background we hope you'll haveAny level of Jewish knowledge or involvement - and if this is your first Limmud event, then you'd be particularly welcome as a YAD as it's a great introduction. Some experience of working with young people, preferably in the context of Jewish education. We also look for one or two roshim (heads of each age group) as well as people who have experience of children with special educational needs.

If you have a current CRB then great, but this is not essential as we can get it for you.
What your place will cost (both YADs and madrichim will be camping with the team unless medical or other reasons mean you require a room)£95 (you'll save £100). Note that all £85 places are now sold out.Free.

How to apply - read it carefully. All forms can now be completed online!

First, you'll need to apply for Fest (will open in a new window so you can still see this page - you may need to disable popup blockers). Tick the first box under 'volunteering' to say you want to be a YAD. If you are over 30 you will need to say your occupation is a 'student' even if it's not really; don't worry about this but if it asks for your place of study just put 'YAD'.

Then complete a separate form to give more details about why you want to be a YAD. Click here for an application form (will open in a new window).

Email fest08-youngfest[at]limmud.org to contact the Youngfest chairs; they will also give you details on how to apply for Fest itself.

Apply now or if you'd like to know more, then email either fest08-yads[at]limmud.org (Liz and Kevin for YADs) or fest08-youngfest[at]limmud.org (Sarah for madrichim).

If you don't mind whether you are a madrich or YAD, then we suggest you apply first as a madrich with a note that you would be happy to be a YAD if the places are full.

Not eligible to be a YAD or madrich? We also offer financial assistance.
