Limmudfest06

Over the August bank holiday weekend, over 450 people from babies to pensioners formed a unique community, from all Jewish backgrounds, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and provided participants the opportunity to expand their horizons and learn about different aspects of Jewish life, traditions, and religion in a relaxed atmosphere. We created a spiritual, creative, cultural and Jewish journey in a friendly and supportive environment.

In true "festival" spirit, we spent a lot of time outdoors in the sunshine, and the majority of those coming to Limmudfest camped in the grounds - though some people also slept in rooms. Families were well catered for with a creche, childrens programme and babysitting, as well as many family friendly activities such as Kiddies rock concerts and strawberry picking.

Limmudfest is dedicated to strong environmental policies, and this was reflected throughout the event whether it be through the locally sourced produce we ate, or the importance placed on recycling what we used. Also it was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and explore the beautiful countryside as well as have lots and lots of fun, which we did at the Barmitzvah disco and the Eurovision night to name but two of many entertainment highlights. Not to mention the fantastic range of music on offer from local talent such as Nick Amar and Steve Levi of Oi Va Voi or from further abroad as with Sway Machinery of the USA.

Tikkun Trek

For the 24 hours prior to LimmudFest, 50 people took on the TikkunTrek challenge - hiking, cycling or canoeing to and from a beautiful isolated woodland campsite. In doing so, over £2000 was raised for the development of a local woodland educational project in Suffolk and towards community development in areas of South Asia devastated by the tsunami. Inspired by beautiful natural surroundings, guided by experienced educators, TikkunTrek participants enjoyed a physical and educational journey, exploring themselves, their community and how they respond to the challenges of sustainable development.
