Excited about Limmudfest08

Freedom installation

Limmudfest08 was a stunning success over the August bank holiday weekend in the beautiful surrounds of the Peak District. Over 600 people came and studied, enjoyed the scenery and prayed, socialised, meditated and partied.

LimmudFest combines a unique blend of learning, music and culture resulting in an interactive, accessible and inspiring participative experience. The emphasis of Fest, in the run up to Ellul, is on taking time out of everyday life to reflect on our relationships with ourselves, with other people and with the world around us. It is held in Cliff College in Calver, which allows for both indoor accommodation and camping. We had all ages from newborns to great-grandparents, across the spectrum of interests, culture and religious observance (like all Limmud events, Limmudfest is fully observant of Shabbat and Kashrut in public places).

Limmudfest08 ran from Friday 22nd to Monday 25th August. A particular focus of Fest is the environment and tikkun olam, with participants taking part in Tikkun Trek, a pre-Fest adventure which takes place on Thursday 21st August – with cycling, hiking and sessions on spiritual, environmental and social action topics. For the first time this year, there was a Family Tikkun Trek as well, suitable for children of all ages.

The Limmudfest programme is a lively mix of music, dance, performance, study, prayer, hands-on workshops & film presented by presenters from the UK and abroad.
