Limmud is a big, beautiful festival of Jewish culture and learning. It is a charitable organization without a denominational or political agenda. Wherever you find yourself, Limmud will take you one step further on your Jewish journey.
Come and spend the day with us on September 14 at the stunning new Petchey Academy in the heart of this London borough with an illustrious Jewish past - and a vibrant and dynamic Jewish present. This will be a Limmud with a difference, with all the Limmud regulars but a strong local flavour.
Who are the artists who have lived and still live here? The writers, poets and political thinkers? The dreamers and hard-headed activists? We're an eclectic and sometimes argumentative bunch here in Hackney, but most of all, we're big-hearted and welcoming! Come and join us to explore this rich and wonderful blend. Programme highlights include:
You can attend a session, or simply relax over a coffee and chat to other participants, visit the art and photography exhibitions, or the Limmud market stalls for a wide selection of Judaica, music and books.
Hackney is well served by public transport. The Petchey Academy is less than 10 minutes walk from Dalston Kingsland station on the North London (London Overground) line, and less than 15 minutes from Hackney Downs and Rectory Road stations on the Liverpool Street to Enfield line. Buses 76, 67, 149 and 243 pass close to the school along Stoke Newington Road. Bus 276 from Stratford to Stoke Newington passes very near the school, as does the 236 from Finsbury Park to Hackney Wick.
Limited on-site parking is available for people with mobility difficulties and for families with young children. Parking in the surrounding streets is free on Sunday.
A free shuttle bus will run between Finsbury Park and the school, in the morning and evening. A bus will also run from Golders Green, subject to demand (return fare will be £8 per adult, £2 per child).
If you are interested in these buses, or need an on-site parking place, please tell us in the box at the end of the online booking form, or by ticking the boxes on the printed form. For the Golders Green bus, send a cheque payable to 'Limmud', marked 'Golders Green bus' on the back, to Hackney Limmud c/o 15 Nathaniel Court, 254 Green Lanes, London N4 2HE.
If you live in Hackney, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Islington or Tower Hamlets, you are welcome to offer to present a session on a Jewish topic of your choice. We cannot guarantee to accept your offer, due to space limitations, and of course, since it's Limmud, neither can we guarantee the size of your audience. Please get in touch with us soon if you are interested.
