Limmud Chavruta

What is Limmud Chavruta?

Every day at Limmud an extraordinary phenomenon occurs. Hundreds of people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of knowledge gather in one room to study together. Using a specially written guided source book, you will work in small groups and with a partner, and as the discussions flow far and wide, the room is filled with a buzz of learning. This is Limmud Chavruta.

This year as well as the traditional day-time Chavruta sessions, there will also be twilight sessions for those who function better after sunset...

Chavruta at Conference is for everyone - whether you are familiar with learning Jewish texts or a novice. When you arrive, you will join a table of up to 10 Limmudniks, and a facilitator will be there to help and guide you through the texts.  You will spend most of the session discussing the texts with a learning partner (your chavruta partner) and later you will feed back your ideas to the group around your table.

There will be a Hebrew speaking table for those that want it.

Just bring yourselves, your ideas and your questions.  A willingness to listen, debate and discuss are the only requirements! Be a part of this unique learning experience...

This year's Chavruta theme

This year the theme of Limmud Chavruta will be Yetziratiut (Creativity)

Our ability to create and to recreate is a powerful connector between the human and the divine and makes us who we are.

The first day will examine the primary act of creation and seeks to understand its centrality to Judaism as a whole and to humanity's place within the creative world.

The second day will consider the place of creativity in our daily lives, particularly the tensions between individual expression and religious constraint in relation to attitudes, time, appearance and a range of other areas.

The third day will explore the Jewish relationship to the arts looking at painting, sculpture, performance and architecture.

The fourth day will examine imagination - its sources and its place over time and across different facets of our lives.

Don't miss out on a unique Limmud learning experience...
