What's happening at Conference this year

Chavruta project - engage with our texts

This year's theme for our internationally-acclaimed Chavruta Project is 'creativity'.

Working with a study partner alongside hundreds of other Limmud participants, together with our experienced facilitators, you can engage morning and evening with traditional and modern texts in Hebrew and English. We provide a rich study guide to help you find your feet, so you're especially welcome if you've never studied text before.

Breakfast will be provided, and for those for whom early mornings are still too much of a challenge we hope to bring you a cocktail chavruta session as well in the early evening.

Pre-Conference Shabbat: a unique experience

Where else in our community can you come together to share a Shabbat with so many from across the religious spectrum? Our renowned pre-Conference Shabbat is the perfect start to your Limmud week. Visit the Shabbat page for more information.

Intensives

Our four-part Intensive courses allow you to meet and learn with the same group at the same time each day. Choosing an Intensive not only means that you will have the opportunity to acquire a new skill or develop a topic in more depth – it will also enable you to connect more closely with fellow Limmud participants.

Recreation - because you have to relax sometimes

The Recreation team are planning a huge range of extra curricular activity - from evening events for all ages with the emphasis on social schmoozing to sport in the afternoons, from 'Dine and Discuss' to a jam-packed shuk - we've got it covered.

Highlights include the Limmud Pub Quiz 2007 (storming back after last year's success), the 'Welcome to Warwick Treasure Hunt, the Art Gallery and the closing night bonfire. We'll be making sure that the drinks are flowing and that there's always something to do, see and eat, not necessarily in that order. All you have to do is to make sure the conversation is sparkling.

Attitudes - we don't all see things in the same way

'Attitudes' is a new series of sessions where we plan to explore the different ways in which Jews from different traditions deal with a number of core ideas and issues.

Communities around the world understand and find meaning in Jewish practice in many ways and this year you will have the chance to compare, contrast, explore and examine how these traditions interact - the way in which we have developed different attitudes to the same ideas.

Tell me text - what makes our presenters tick?

In the morning come and hear our presenters engage with the core texts that they believe every Limmud participant should know - whether it's Torah, politics or science.

In the afternoon, come and hear the presenters talk about the texts that continue to guide and to intrigue them.

TLC (Tikkun Limmud in the Community)

Given that volunteering is at the heart of the Limmud experience, this year we're again giving you the chance to spread that spirit a little wider with TLC – Tikkun Limmud in the Community.

We'll take a break from the main programme to do some hands-on volunteering with local charities. New this year - you can sign up ahead of time or on-site at Conference.

Bone marrow screening

Representatives of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust will be on-site one day during Conference to screen for the bone marrow register.

Limmud and the environment - Green Limmud

We're committing to an improvement in ethical, renewable and sustainable sourcing for catering, programming and printing.

There will be increased recycling facilities around the campus. You can also make a £10 donation to help offset the carbon footprint of Conference. All donations will go toward planting indigenous trees in Israel.

Volunteering - Conference needs you

We're run by the energy and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers, and whether you have one hour or a hundred to spare, your involvement makes a difference.

Both before and at Conference, there are opportunities to take responsibility for its success. For instance, have you considered hosting an overseas guest before Conference, or helping mealtimes run smoothly?

If you can help, please email us at volunteers@limmud.org, call the Limmud Office or visit the volunteers page.

Young Adult Development (YAD) Scheme

Are you between 18 and 30 or in full time education? If so, you can join the Young Adult Development (YAD) scheme which is one way in which Limmud invests in the future of the
Jewish community.

In return for the commitment of a few hours' volunteering each day, we're offering generous subsidies that in most cases bring your Conference fees to just £105. Places are limited - please apply by 19 November.

If you are over 30 and have particular skills we need then there may still be an opportunity to be a YAD; please check the YAD page for possible roles.

If you would like more information, see the YADs page.
